The Importance of Conducting Background Check

There is no doubt that background check has become a very crucial requirement of every screening process. Employers need this check to ensure the credibility of their employees, car buyers need it to make sure that the car that they want to buy has clean historical background, and housewives need it to make sure that the nanny who takes care of their children is a trustable individual. It has even become an inseparable part of employee recruitment process performed by all companies. Therefore, even though there are several parties who question the ethical and moral aspect of this check because for them, delving into others’ personal and private records is not considered moral and ethical, the crucial feature of this check overwhelms any moral impairments that it induces.

Among various records being investigated by this check, criminal records are considered the most sensitive. In these records, all criminal conducts and affairs that have ever recorded in a checked individual’s past are exposed. Such records contain any criminal conducts, lawsuits, misdemeanors, vandalistic behaviors, and any socially objectionable activities in which the checked individual has ever been involved. The result of criminal check often becomes the focus which decides whether an individual is eligible to be hired as employee or not. If criminal records gained from the check expose a severe level of criminal threat to the company that hires the checked individual, the company’s human resources manager will least likely hire him or her.

However, such conception does not mean that people who fail to pass the criminal background check are not eligible to be seated in any job position. Sometimes, even though a job applicant has bad criminal records, the company may still consider seat him or her to any job position that doesn’t really affect the overall security of the company. A job applicant can also receive the job if the last criminal conduct that he or she performs occurred more than seven or ten years ago.
