Facebook Application Overhaul for iPhone 3.0

By Holden Page on July 2, 2009

One of theĀ  most popular apps on Facebook is getting a major overhaul for the latest iPhone OS. Previous to the latest version, the Facebook iPhone app was very representative of the full fledged browser version of Facebook. That has been scrapped in favor of tiles.

Each of the major features have their own tile which includes a previous non-feature Facebook Events. There are also plenty of new features to boot with the latest version of Facebook for the iPhone. Thanks to copy and paste I will list them below.

1. The “new” News Feed
2. Like
3. Events (including the ability to RSVP)
4. Notes
5. Pages
6. Create new photo albums
7. Upload photos to any album
8. Zoom into photos
9. Easier photo tagging
10. Profile Pictures albums
11. A new home screen for easy access to all your stuff, search, and notifications
12. Add your favorite profiles and pages to the home screen
13. Better Notifications (they link to the comments so you can reply)
14. Quickly call or text people right from the Friends page
15. Messages you are typing will be restored if you quit or are interrupted by a phone call

One feature that is missing are push notifications, but rest assured they are coming later this summer. Currently there exists no word on when exactly the app will be available in the App Store. According to Joe, the only developer for the Facebook application, the app is 98 percent completely and that we can most likely expect it soon.

Here are some screenshots of the latest version of Facebook for iPhone 3.0:

  2. Very nice. I haven’t seen this update, yet. I’m still showing the old version of the Facebook app on my iPhone.

It sounds like they added a few things that were sorely missing from previous versions.

  3. The update should be coming within the next few weeks. It all depends on the App store approval process :/

  4. My first impressions of the iPad are totally positive. Apple has once again built a product that looks good and feels great in the hand, and the familiar user interface, borrowed from the iPhone and iPod touch, is perfectly suited to the bigger screen. The iPad whizzes along, opening applications, re-sizing web pages, and zooming in and out of maps almost instantaneously. Does someone know the release date? i love it and i want it…
